Cages for protecting your fruit and vegetables

Cages can be used to protect fruit and delicate plants from hungry birds. There are many different types of cages or poly tunnels that can be bought from your local garden centre or mail order service. However, these can be expensive.

If you have the time, it is more cost effective to make you own by creating a frame using wood or canes, and covered it in netting.

Smaller frames can be made to protect newly planted seedlings.

Poly tunnels are useful for protecting delicate plants from the cold and late spring frosts.
